Kununurra is located almost 3,400km north of Perth, 1042km from Broome, 829km from Darwin and just 40km from the Northern Territory border. The town sits within the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley which covers an area of 121,000 square kilometres.
By Air
Kununurra is well serviced by jet flights which can be booked through Qantas, Virgin and Airnorth. Schedules are subject to change so please check their websites for current availability. You can book through to Kununurra via Qantas and Virgin from any state in Australia.
By Road
Kununurra is the eastern gateway to the Kimberley region of Western Australia and is accessed via the Victoria Highway, which links to the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory.
For the 4WD enthusiasts, access to Kununurra can also be via the unsealed Tanami and Duncan Roads through Alice Springs, in central Australia and Halls Creek – the heart of the Kimberley. Another great Australian 4WD road trip is via the Kimberley’s Gibb River Road which links the towns of Derby, to both Kununurra and Wyndham.
For those of you familiar with one of Australia’s ultimate adventure drives, the Savannah Way passes through Kununurra as it links Cairns in Tropical North Queensland with Broome on the western side of the Kimberley region.
